"With a large communication barrier between clients and website designers, it can be hard to get the results you’ve paid for. This will help you work efficiently with website designers even without knowing all that technical jargon."

Website designers and clients have a communication barrier – it’s a serious technical barrier that can ultimately cause clients not to get the website they need. On top of that, this lack of communication causes frustration on both sides. The client may not understand certain things while the website designer assumes the client understands most of the technical website jargon. Clients should get the most from their website designer and communication issues shouldn’t get in the way.

Stay Away from Using Technical Words

Instead of saying you want a flash site, tell your website designer what you want the site to do. If you tell a website designer that you want a flash website, he will automatically eliminate any other possibilities based on what you actually want accomplished. There are other ways to get flash-like effects that are more proficient and help improve website loading time.

In other words, allow your website designer to determine what you need to get your desired effects. You just tell him how you want your website to function.

Stay Away from Using Subjective Words

More often than not, clients will use words like “clean” and “modern” and “fresh” that don’t really mean anything. Really, what does an “eye-popping” website look like? For a business that sells shoes it can be one thing and for a photography website it can mean something completely different.

Really think about the type of theme you want. Use descriptions like metallic, antique or cartoon and provide a few colors (not too many) to help the website designer visualize your desired design. You can even say what you want your audience to feel when they go to your website or how you want your audience to view your company and its values.

Allow the Website Designer to Be Creative

If you place too many restrictions, you will limit your website designer’s inspiration and creativity. You can jeopardize the effect of your website’s final look because you’re taking away your designer’s best trait: being creative!

When you see what your designer comes up with, you can give him suggestions for revisions. Show designs that you like and say what about them appeals to you. If you use descriptive words, your website designer should come up with something fresh, fly and eye-popping.
